Volunteering

Dates: Dec 8, 2007
Hours: from 9 to 11 and 11:30 to 1:30

Dates: Dec 11, 2007
Hours: from 6 to 8

I been volunteering with Jersey Care. Volunteers were needed to sort and bag coats that lately will be distributed to the Community of Food Bank in Hillside. While I was unwrapping the bags I so babies coats and I just couldn't help it to think how sad is that there are kids out there that are cold and don't have money to get a coat. It open my mind about how many coats I have and i don't even need that many. It was a good experience and I enjoyed working and knowing that I helped someone with just a few hours I helped to make some people that will appreciate.

Board education meeting

Date: 11/26/2007
Time: 7:30

Number of peoplepresent: 24/34 with the members

The attendance were called.
Right after the members and a few people went into a room to discuss some private topic, I think. Half of the people that were present in the class left after they found out that they topic was postpone. No material or handout was released.
The audio wasn’t very clear and I had a few problems to understand what they were saying.
The topic that was discussed was about the opening of a new restaurant and the owner was asking to make the building bigger, have more parking spaces, and have a double signs and on of them bigger.
Before the owner could explain her needs for the new restaurant, she needed to say her full name. The owner listed a few positive points about why every request she asked for, saying that this restaurant was going to be positive commercial
A question was raised from one of the members of the boar asking "Is one more restaurant need in this town?"
The main problems about making the restaurant bigger was that it was going to leave the shore next to it with no enough space.
The members don’t seems to be positive about opening on other restaurant as a need for the town and a positive thing.
It was asked if any one in the room had any questions. One of the members were asked what is the difference to open a pizzeria instead of a McDonald and subway that are open 24 hours? But the only problem that seems to stop them was that the way the building is designed there was going to be a drive-thru and a lot people would prefer to go to a drive-thru then a McDonald without it.
An other member said that he wish they could open a Mediterranean restaurant instead of an other pizzeria. The members also discussed the difference between a fast food and a restaurant and what make a fast food and what make a restaurant.
Also an other question was asked about if a double sign was needed and if yes why need to be bigger? The owner answered that the second sign need to be bigger so it was more visible from people that were driving. The problem that the members had it was that the building was pretty clean and neat and a big sign would maybe be too much so the members props to keep the sign a the sam size as the rest of the signs.
At the end of the meeting the members were asked to vote for each request.
The meeting was dismissed.

Board meeting broadcast from Cabelvision

Board meeting: 12/05/2007
Time: 7:30
Broadcast on Cable vision Channel 77

The first thing that they did was to call the attendance of the members of the board. The fist topic that was discussed a street from West Paterson, memorial dive and the problem that the speed limit was 40 mph and for the resident that need to cross the street or come out from a driveway it’s very dangerous. The solution to this situation was:
Cross walk modified so people can walk and feel more safe.
Move the signal: so people will see it and slow down.
The attendance were called again. Before starting the next topic the members want to thank all the people that collaborate for the Christmas three lighting night and the Christmas movie night and the big participation from the rest of the town.
Also they announced that 8 people graduate from the fireman department.
The next topic was coming from the police department that need to get need recoding programs, some members explain that there would been a insignificant increase on th badged and they also discussed that the construct was about to expire and maybe they could look for something cheaper for last in the year so they could manage the badged.
The attendance were called again. An other topic was discussed. There were going to give 1.600 dollars to each student from West Paterson that need it to get their certificate.

Observation At Art High-school Part 3

Date: December 06 2207
Time: from 11:15 to 12:45
Total time: 1 hours and 30 minutes
Teacher Yanick Ranieri
Class: French
Level: Senior

Professor Ranieri started the class asking if they had the book and discussed about the chapters before the test that was going to be assigned in a few weeks. They watch a DVD that I thought was pretty interesting way to get to learn and memorize a language. The DVD topics were divided into chapters as in the book. The topics that were covered by the class were:The regular verb, the irregular verb, The imperfect, the past imperfect.

While the form of the verb where show in the infinite way, the DVD explain how to conjugate a verb in different forms. The student were asking to pause with the image and copy what were the rules and the verbs. Also when there were a few tricky verb teacher Ranieri was making sure that she would say them at loud and the students would repeat, she also asked to pay attention to the spelling and the phonetics. They also got to make sentences with the same verbs that were present into the DVD. Each chapter on the DVD was a cartoon like and with each topic had a story was short and funny.

One student had a question about capitalizing word and they made a few examples and teacher Ranieri give a main rule about it so they won’t forget.

After the DVD we did a little quiz about the environment (I did too :) ), there were a few answer that you could picked and each answer had points and at the end you would sum your points and see what it would mean. At the end of the quiz, each student got to share their score and about their own life-style.

The students game homework to the teacher that was to create a little story and draw it. One of the student wasn’t great in drawing so the teacher decide to give him to do a little movie because he was very good with creating videos.

Before the class ended the class discussed the date for the exam and if there were any more question about the topics that were going to be covered on the class.

The all experience was extremely good and I felt welcome from day one by the high-school, the students and teacher Ranieri.

Observation At Art High-school Part 2

Date: November 28 2207
Time: from 9:00 to 12:30
Total time:3 hours and 30 minutes
Teacher Yanick Ranieri
Class: French
Level: (first class) Freshmen and sophomore

Pro-shop

Level: (second class) Senior

First class
At the begging of the class Teacher Ranieri explain that the students will have a test the following class and that they will get to do a review of the chapter and the students will get to ask questions about things that they have doubts about it. I got to see that Teacher Ranieri speaks French in regular situation with her students, when they came in, when they were leaving or when she wanted to ask question out side the scholar material. Also the students like to answer in French and ask how to say some words in French to just use it between them.
The students were asked to do a group exercise, the group as composed by two students, after each group was asked to come up by the teacher desk and read at loud what they did. In this exercises was asked to create together a dialogue and work with elements that students were already familiar with. I loved that all the students were doing like a little show full with expressions and using real material, I thought is was very creative. It was very cute and funny to see. Some kids thought outside of the box asking different question and using different material and vocabulary.
After this exercises teacher Ranieri asked to repeat after her a form of verb in present tense in French followed by a video in French. The video discussed about what French students do during the weekend. The video was no longer than 10 minutes. One the video ended teacher Ranieri asked to explain what they saw ans heard and get into particular vocabularies that were said during the video and at the end she asked to compare the French students to the American students and discuss the similar things that they do and have in common also the main differences.

Pro-shop it's discussed, between teachers, about scholar issues and curriculum related as in the past they discussed the attendance police. This pro-shop's discussion was based on the importance of open-ended questions. We first took a look of the Bloom's taxonomy and they described what is is and the importance of each element as knowledge, comprehension and application and so on until to get to the last point evaluation. The first question raised was if the position of synthesis and evaluation should be switched because synthesis that is a phase where the teacher will ask to create something with the material and knowledge giving to them should been the last step instead of the evaluation that would be more when students evaluate their actions and choices. Some people argued that these 2 phases (evaluation and synthesis) can even happens at the same time and other not. The main point at the end was to understand the importance of the taxonomy and to make sure that each step is done before the professor get to another point. For example do not give exercises if students didn't understand the rule because that would confuse them even more.
A sentence that I like to take with me from this pro-shop is that teacher does not teach what to think but how to think, so the teacher is a role of direction for the students, the teacher would assessing the level of thinking. After have discussed that taxonomy, we moved to read a paper about open-ended question, each person include the students (there were two more students with me at the pro-shop) would read three pageseveryone had different pages and after a few minutes we would have to reassume our pages and after that we would give a characteristic to what it is an open-ended question.
After the list was passed around some sheets with different type of questions, we need to identify if i was an open-ended question or not and to show two types of open-ended question based on the future program for December for each teacher.
Second class:
This class was composed of seven students and it was pretty quiet respect to the rest of the classes that I got to observe. Professor Ranieri distributes the book and asked to do a group exercises and after review orally the work done, in the exercise was asked to create a family situation and after they would interpreted.
I asked teacher Ranieri later if she thought that group exercise were better than working alone and she said that with group exercise they will get to work together and ask each other about things they have doubts about , so they would work better together as long it doesn’t create too much chatting, it seems to work fine in her classes.
Once done the exercise, they did some exercise orally together that discussed "must" connected with actions and vocabularies, and before the end of the class they got to read and found out more information about Switzerland, the language, the culture, the economic system and more.

Observation At Art High-school Part 1

Date: November 27 2207
Time: from 1:40 to 2:40
Total time: 1 hour
Teacher Yanick Ranieri
Class: French
Level: Senior

When I got to the class, the class was discussing about the economic system that France has it, the Euro. Professor Ranieri got ready for every student a poster that showed every Euro bill, a few copies for each type of amount (example: €5, €10, €20, etc ..) Professor Ranienri discussed and described each bill with the class asking questions about it. After have analyzed the Euro bills, the class compared the Euro to the Dollar, looking for similarities and differences. Prof. Ranieri started talking about the Euro coins and said that she will have them ready for next class. She asked as homework to Goggle the word "Euro" and the value of the Euroo in the Dollar and bring this information to the next class.
After that Professor Ranieri asked to take the books and so a group exercise, every students groups by two and they started doing the group exercise. After a few minutes professor Ranieri went to the board and asked to check if the rest of the class got it right and if they didn't to fix the sentence. The exercise was based on grammatical and vocabularies that the class was familiar with already as "to have, to need, can I, scholar tools, numbers and colors" and in the exercise was asked to put all this elements together.
After this the class mover to the computer room, Professor Ranieri explain me that the classes is of more with games and activities with the computer. Professor Ranieri gave a disc to each student and they could either work by there selves or in groups of two. The CD material is related to the material already studied with the class. The language used in the CD was for the majority French and some English was spoken too. I had the chance to go around the class and take a look of the type of exercises were giving to the students and there were some exercise that were based on try to find the right description to the picture that is showed on the desktop. If the students gave the wrong answer the computer would give a little hint in English that would help them answer in the correct way.
There was also a puzzle to create and when you clicking in each piece sometimes could get a picture (in this case was scholar tools) and other times they would get a description on an object (a scholar tool). When the student found the description that would match the picture the two pieces turned and showed a part of the puzzle. The game ended when the puzzle is completed. One other type of game was a creation of a dialog where a voice from the computer would asked a question and the student needed to choose from 3 answer offered by the computer.
At the end of the class I asked Professor Ranieri about the project that I notice in the classroom, there were a lot of posters done by the students with the elements studies and drawing and description done in French. Some were about scholar tools, other about their selves and their hobbies; one was a little comic, food and animals. All the works were wonderful and so creative. Professor ranieri explain me that being in a school where is giving so much importance in art it's a good way to let the students do arts projects that would get them involved in it and they would learn more about French.

Field Experience#1

When I went to the field experience (11-01) we get to asked questions that our colleges wanted to ask after they left.
How does the daily schedule of classes work at the Art high school?
Their daily schedule is the blocks system.
How does the urban environment effect the inside of the school?
They said that Newark is not the violent city that everyone has it is and that students should be worried and that news focus more in the bad thigs that happens instead of the good thigs.
What are students main goals to attend after gratuation?
A lot of students go to college from 151 students, 147 are eccepted to collge and some of important people beome figure of the art in USA.
The field experience was interesting and I got to see what this students are all about, they take school pretty seriuasly and the good thing is that I saw them responsable and having fun about school and learning. The staff is great and I just can't wait to work with them and learn everything that I can. I am really looking foward.

www.ed.gov

I should start saying that I never visit this site and that if I want become a teacher one day I should start using my time for online research for more interesting and educational information. This is a good site to look up and take knowledge of what is going on in the schools.

I liked the idea that they have the section for students, parents, teachers and administrators. It's good realizing that not only teachers or the administrators are considered in this site but even students and what is important too parents. My parents were always involved with what was going on in my school and I think that helped me being focus on my study and it's important that parents see what is going on beside asking "Did you do your homework?". Some have the privilege, some don't but I believe parents should be more involved with the school.

I went into the section for students and I see that there are links about important topics as drugs, future career, info about college, get involved into the community, looking on the parents section I see information about school laws as NCLB and different issues that parents can have, concerns as knowing if their kids are learning and help kids feel comfortable at school, it also raises problems for Hispanic families. After I looked about the teachers section and I have to say it is a really interesting website that I will definitely come back again and take a deep look about this section because with the fact that I already teach I start seeing that teaching is not all about knowing the subject but is about dealing with kids, of different ages, different races, attitude, problems and even if you can't always being on top of everything alla the times because no one is perfect and make a mistake here and there is normal and human, teach is though and for all those that this that you need to just love kids to do this job are going be very disappointed because there is always something that a teacher can do to make her/his work easier and more interesting for your students. There is to say too that sometimes the adults give more problems than the adult!! Seriously! I liked the website and I believed it is going to come useful and everyone students, parents and teachers.

"Do schools marshal their human and material resources to produce idiots or citizens?" Final draft

School has an important role that will build the minds of future citizens or as Parker W. writes, in "Teaching Against Idiocy", idiots. Teachers have a bigger role towards the students besides teaching different subjects that will help the students to get ready for the real life to interact your other people once they are done with school. The power that education has in the students is bigger than people think. Teachers teach values to students every day directly and indirectly, students are the reflection of the teacher’s behavior and of what they been taught in class is going come out outside, is going to influence them in their social life outside the school. So ideas, mentality that kids learn in class are going to be used outside the class but what teacher should keep in mind is that teachers need to act with care and paying attention of what they do and say because kids will copy teacher’s action and way to think especially things that teachers don’t mean to teach. It’s really important to notice what a strong influence teacher has on students so teachers don’t want their students to get wrong ideas especially when they are learning different ideas from what they are learning at house because then teachers are going have to answer to student’s parents about it . The influence of a professor is important because students see the teacher as a leader and most of the times they want become just like him/her so the professor need to be careful of what he is doing and saying. We all loved at least one professor that give us inspiration to push harder and believe in ourselves but how far can a professor push his/her students and when should they stop?Schools shouldn’t make the mistake to just feed information, ideas and mentality without giving a justification and a motivation to it because if it does then school creates would create just robots. So do schools create future citizens or future robots with feeding information and mentality? Do schools make students be themselves and follow their inspiration or they stopped because they are to free-spirit and make them follow a specific direction? Schools need to create people with an open mind and learn to collaborate and find the best solution in everything.School has an important and delicate role: Schools sharps minds and build the minds of the kids that are going to be the people of the future. People that will decide for us and we better hope that we can depend on them and they can take care of us.Schools teach kids to stand up for their rights and remember that they have the freedom to speak but teachers should also explain how far a kid can go get what they want and when your rights is not more important that other people rights to do and say what they want so they can learn to live in a community that can be the kindergarten, high school or you town. Also there is a big variety of students in schools, students that are from around the world are present in school of U.S. today so kids need to respect and understand the differences of lifestyle and do not marginalized kids just because they have different color skin or a different shape of eyes. Is it better to separate students into groups with people of the same characteristics or try to learn more about a student with different background can help to get students ready when they are going to be in the real world full of diversity of cultures? This is when democracy comes in democracy is live together with other people and work together to the only the best solution for the community, country, planet. If adults today don’t feel comfortable to work with other cultures and seems that they don’t meet an agreement is because their schools didn’t teach them how to.What happen into the school, in the house and streets are connect so the power of education needs to remind that what a teacher will do and say will be a role model for the kids, the same kids that hoping one day are going to be citizens and not idiots.

Inquiry Question

Our inquiry question is not 100% ready but we have a specific topic and that is music and how music can help and make learning easier for students. I support the idea that music can simplify this, I teach Italian and always try to bring songs into my classes because I believe that music is fun, kids love it and without even realize they learn and it is easy to remember. I also believe that through music any other topic can be taught and learnt, math, dance, geography name it and try to think how you can teach a specific topic with music and the class can be more fun and I strongly believe that kids that learn while having fun can assimilate more than kids that are been taught in a very strict and more classic way and it also can get kid's creativity and imagination, two elements that I consider important as any other subject.

The Future Of Urban Schools

I liked this paper so far. I always love see people try to notice the problems or mistakes done in the pst in the schools and try to get a change in the schools for the best and this paper was really giving some good advice.
i thought that the idea that was giving to the citie and its importance was a good point beacuse cities are the places where everything happens and show what the community is all about with let the students get to partecita in public life.
The idea that enjoyed about this paper was that the curriculus everything that the students study should be based about the history of the students so that would make it more interesting and usefull when the students are out there, so ready to belong and make a better community, so have this curriculum a little bit more compleate that would get kids ready for almost everything in life, I say almost because it's not always good to generalize and you never know!
Also in the paper is idea that students can have "the ability to control the course of their lives in the ways that are the promise of democracy" (pg.2) in way a teachers should always belive in their students and try to understand what is the student interested about it, good at and show his abilities to do good things and believe in him/her self.
Also in class we got to exploir more the reading and we focus on the letter and what each letter meant:
AEIOU
A: Agenda based on if you can see something wrong, you can change it, be able to change the changable, You can effect change and you have the tolls to do it.
E: Equity & Justice Justice= Talks about fairness that is do what's right to do as a teacher with her/his students, difference between equity(recognition - individual needs with relationship to the group) and equality (everyone gets the same), getting the right help when they need it.
I:Instruction & Curriculum: how learning actually occurs - focus too much on how people teach instead of how kids really laern. Pick a topic: what will my students learn? How will they learn it? How will I know they will lwarned?
O: Outcomes & Impact: outcomes=the resolt what they learned , the ability to use what they've. Impact= It's real life application
U: Urban Condition: Faces of what schools means for students, Students go to school for different reasons, some like it,, some need it, some mark time and some to wast time. so the question is "How you choose to deal with it and make the difference? "

Class 10/09

I think this is been my favorite class so far. The quote of the day for me was "You need to be good students to be good teachers" I was thinking that I been focusing on my blogs to say I want be a good teacher but really I should think at the present instead of thinking about the future, so say I want be a good student it's more realistic!
I like to have a "Let me show you how to write a paper class" because is good to have a refresh on the steps that you should follow to write a good paper and hide myself behind the "I am a ESL student" excuse is not longer valid for me if I want be a good student and a future good teacher I am going to write better paper...end of the story.
Rethinking about the American values that today we discuss, I start thinking what are the values, we answered in class that we are talking about all the values, so first of my doubt was resolved but then if you think about THE AMERICAN VALUES what is really American? if from all the big list that we made on the chard about values we just erase American and put the European values would some of those values be erased? I don't think so but I really think that we shouldn't focus anymore to the question "What are American values?" because really you never going to find a values that works only for Americans, sorry that is what I think! If you want prove me wrong go head!

School for Citizens; Preserving the Republic

I loved reading this chapter, I considered so interesting for different aspect but the main one was how education can influence students because I never notice that before I didn't think that what a student thinks today is because definitely someone put those idea in his/her head, so we need to be very careful to understand what we say and how we say it. As the reading as been advising schools should teach always good values, but here I am thinking what are the good values, I consider that there are universal values as "do not kill people" If you want get respect, you need to give respect" and "Follow the rules". I don't think there is a problem about rules or values, I believe the real problem is when a complicated element as the politics comes into the classroom then here comes problems because I believe it's hard to explain politics to students without put your personal opinion. So if a teacher today have to discuss of politics in class and puts her/his own opinion into the discuss there is a big chance that student will support the opinion on the teacher. I had an experience about a teacher that liked to discuss politics in class but she didn't like when someone had a different idea from her so this experience made me so confused about politics and I don't really like it because of her. Feed to student one view of the situation is wrong. Plus I couldn't believe what I was reading when it was suggest to teach politics as religion! this would go back to my discussion of have only one point of view where here there are the bad and here the good people! It doesn't make any sense!
An other point that I like to make about this chapter is that I loved the idea about this beautiful community and idea about what social education should be I was so exited that I want to say I want be part of this too, I want become one of those teacher that student will thank later on fro giving more than just a lesson but lessons about life! well somehow I couldn’t be part because I am an immigrant and only Citizens who were native born, rural yeomen, Protestants, and not poor needed only to be reminded of their duties can belong to this wonderful project and the immigrations seemed to be considered a problem that they want to minimize as much as possible because in pg. 17 the sentence "The consequences of foreign education are alarming to me as an American" i think that people are scared of what you don't know. Once I read an article that was commenting the quote "Welcome to America, now speak English!" is a was too say that when you can't understand what people say and you don't have to leave your country to let that happen you feel threaten and scare because you are not in control of your situation. it doesn’t offend people especially a person as me.

reactions of class 09/25/07

If I have to say the truth, I don't know what happen that day, the all pop quiz, go home and type a paper in less than 2 hours and have the all speech about the all class it was a little stressful for me. Did I need a speech like that to wake me up?no.. did I think was a good idea? yes. even if I always did my readings maybe this little shake help to make sure I understand the reading and I come to class with questions! About the notes I have an eye infection so it's a little hard to look at the board but I might just seat down closer so I can see so I can take better notes.
well I better take an other look again to the reading before class and I hope we won't have an other class like that because I think I will have a heart attack!

The haiku poem!

My kids are the best

If you were in my pretty socks,

you would understand even more!

There is nothing more fun

than play and laugh with my kids

I can’t ask for more.

They are my great escape

I don’t think about a bad thing

Just play and have fun.

I see them innocent, sweet

I love them each one this much

Stickers and kisses for everyone.

Class is over for today,

Arrivederci, I see you next week kids!

It’s fun being a teacher.

I write this poem thinking about when I teach my Italian classes and my kids(students). I want to put students but trust my when you start teaching and get to see those kids for over a year you see them grow and learn you can't help it but call them kids.
This is pretty much what I think and do while I am teaching, I believe in teaching classes through playing, kids don't even realize and that's when they learn the most.
I hope all of you loved my haiku poem. For my was a big challenge because I am a ESL but I try my best and at the end was fun and easy. let me know...

third reflection class

So during the third class we got to compared the two different readings but what I really considered to be the main important issue when one of the students raise the question "Why do we put so much importance into race?" Well, in the begging I thought the same... I didn't think that we should ask people around "what are you?" but "who are you?" so try to just get to know the person without all the background information if a person is outgoing would change my prospective about that person if h/she is from one race instead of an other one? I don't think so.
But later in the week I read a book about Italian immigrant into the U.S. and that made me realize that found out about each race is important because what the past generation is been through made us. we can't say that we are all the same, we are different, we are like different colors, they are all beautiful and all different. I considered that if we were all the same, coming from the same background, speaking the same language, wouldn't be so boring?
Races are beautiful and said that we shouldn’t pay that much attention to it, it's kind of silly because you don't want offend anyone first, each race has a history, culture and mentality that it should be considered instead of hiding it. If race is not important than why when a black guy says a joke about black people is funny and when a white guy says it, it's offensive?

After the second class ....

Before class I wrote in my reaction paper about the reading that “everything sound new to me because I didn’t grow up in this country” after class I can say the same exact thing because we didn't really went over a few things that I might will start asking about either in class or I will go over the teacher office and get a few questions about what is important to know about school, students, teachers and teaching skills. Looking at all those numbers wasn't really helping and showing any helpful information that I can take and use in the future.
I have to say that for the Martian project we didn't have enough time to get it done in class and even if I done something pretty much the same in other classes and with other subjects I would loved to put more silly information to make it more interesting but then I always think "If Martians exist, they are smart enough to stay away from us".
For Missy " am so not happy to do a project group" I am trying to get the idea that I have about project groups that is really I don't want work with other people especially if in the past I had to do all the work and be with people that weren't collaborating and either getting all the credit or take me down with them either way I was mad about their behavior.
Just a little thing that I want to share with you is: I was studying Erickson’s theory about social and personal development where he discuss that human go through a few phases and each phase as a crises and fear that they need to confront.
Well my fear is to trust people guess what... the fear of trusting people suppose to be gone at the age of 18 months old!
Going back to my project group fear I want to see people as an extra help that I can use plus I am studying to be a teacher and I am sure that i will be using project group in the future as a learning or practices so I better take a positive attitude about it and make it work!

reaction about class 1

The reaction that I had about the first day of class was positive for different reasons:
I was glad to see that Dr. Goldstein seems to be very organized, ready to teach this class and friendly, funny and with the right attitude.
As a Montclair student and a foreign student I have to say that you don't get that many professors that act in the same way. Some professors don't even need to speak to show that they don't like to teach, they don't have any clue of what are the main goals to reach with that class that they are teaching and they didn't spend time to get ready the class program.
When I had those kind of teachers I put in my mind that I don't want became just a teacher, a want be one of those that the students can't wait to come to school for, that when they are in class, they love to listen and participate and that they might will take the discuss done in class outside of the classroom. I know it sounds so easy and good but it takes effort to let this happen.
Since I been thinking that I want become a teacher I been looking and studied teachers, good and bad ones because they is a lot to learn just in looking a professor.
Perhaps, this semester I have a teacher that she prepared, she is funny and a person with a great personality but what I see is that even if she has a program to follow, she doesn't follow it and she looks us and tell us that we are tired and bored, so she doesn't finish the program and gives the choice to stay or leave. What I am disappointed is that we have a lot work to do and she let us leave early, the kind of exercises that we do are way too easy and she doesn't challenge us so I wouldn't blame anyone if students get bored. I have a question for you; she said if you have any ideas how to make the class more fun and interesting please email me...
My instinct is to email her and tell her to give a little of challenging homework or exercises where we would spend more than 2 minutes on it, reading, movies anything that after can be discuss in class, then something hits me and I think "What about the rest of the? Does anyone else think the same thing or I should just be quite because I don't want being the most hated girl in the class even because that's a major class and I would see the same people for the next year..."
Well, I know it's hard to be a good teacher and to get the right impression on students but I am ready to work hard and to deserve that grade that I will get at the end of the semester.
In conclusion, I feel I will be a positive experience attending this class and I will get a lot of knowledge from this class and I am so excited to go to Newark because I think it's going to be one of the most greatest experience where I going get to learn a lot from. Once a professor told me "You can learn a lot from books about teaching but there are things that books can't teach you and that you would get only from experiencing teaching" I totally believe is truth and I am ready to learn.

Reading number 2...Educational Demographics: What teachers should know

I found this reading interesting because as I said before moving from an other country I don't know the most common information about schools, teachers and students in the U.S. so it's important for my and I think it's a blessing to take this class that shows me what's going on in schools today.I had a few questions about the reading as "Hispanic is not a race" I was a little confused about this situation and I want to know why Hispanic is not considered a race and I didn't find quite clear when it was talking about the miscegenation marriages because before the reading was noticing that 40 percent of all Americans have had some racial mixing in the last three generation but then it says that Europeans Americans are married to a spouse from the same country of origin and pretty soon Hispanics and Asians will do the same but Diversity in increasing. So my question is "is diversity incring now but soon will decrease or what?".
I loved the few tips for teachers at the end of the page and the sentence "Rather than "color blind" your goal should be "culture fair" is a pretty strong and important sentence that every teacher should look up to.

The Martian Blog ( Group 1)

What are our schools like and how did they get that way?

1. School districts provide education for students to learn about different subject matters such as English, History, Math, Science, etc. Students attend school Monday through Friday 6 hours a day. The school districts are controlled mainly by the State and local government. Students are required to attend school from ages 5-18. At the age of 16, students have a choice to drop out.

What are our schools like and how did they get that way?

2. The students in America are diverse. (Asian/Pacific Islander, African American, White, & Latino) Foreign born children (born outside of the U.S) also attend schools in the U.S. and are taught to speak English. Students start attending school at the age of 4 until 17-18.

Who are our teachers?

3. Almost half of all public school teachers have advanced degrees, and the majority has more than 10 years of experience. The ratio of male to female teachers is 8:10. 9 out of 10 teachers are white. 33% teachers escape the profession and pursue other careers. 46% of teachers leave the profession within 5 years.

Pubblic schools

Reading the paper, everything sound new to me because I didn’t grow up in this country and I getting this information about public school, who are the students and what matters and what doesn’t it, it’s new and I don’t fully understand what is an issue and what’s not. For example, reading one of those statistics, there was one saying that 1 out of 4 students form the public school is a student of color and the number will increase in the future. Now I thought about it and I asked myself first why is important to point this out? what does this mean? Is this a problem or a better thing? How was in the past? Were there less students of color or more in the past years?
I grow up in Italy but not the north Italy, in the past years it’s visible to see multi-cultures in one same town and school. I lived in Sicily where there is 1 out 1000 students is an immigrant and I lived in a town small where everyone is related some how.
When I came here and I got to see multi-culture connect with each others for me was like music to my ears because I remember it that my sociology teacher used tell before I left that I would had a chance to get to now other cultures, lifestyle and it was an amazing opportunity that would make become more open-minded and mature more.
Living in an other continent means, same things as public and private school can have different meaning and different way to be seen. I want get to understand these differences and learn everything about it because as a future teacher I want know what can be changed and modified for the best. I want become one less bad teacher and be an example for my future students.
